Holdup suspect shot by clerk

A Northeast Dalas [sic] convenience store clerk shot and wounded a would-be holdup man Tuesday night.

Police said the suspect entered the business in the 9900 block of Garland road around 8:50 p.m., pulled out a weapon and fired it at the store employee.

The clerk produced a pistol and fired it at the gunman, wounding him in the head.

"Obviously, if it is a case of self-defense where he did come in to rob, attempt to rob the store, then we will take his statement and then we will go ahead and refer everything to the grand jury," said Dallas police Lt. Mike Scroggins.

The suspect was taken to Baylor University Medical Center where he was last reported in critical condition.

Would-Be Robber Dies After Being Shot By Clerk

Police Investigating Circumstances Surrounding Shooting

A would-be robber is dead after being shot by a convenience store clerk during an attempted robbery, police say.

Police said the man, 21-year-old Cortney Rivers, was acting suspicious while wandering around the Food Mart on the 9900 block Garland Road. Police said Rivers then walked up to the counter and pulled a gun.

The clerk also pulled out a gun and shot one round at Rivers, striking him in the head.

Rivers was transported to Baylor Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.

Police are conducting interviews and investigating the shooting to verify if it was justified.

Robbery repelled by shotgun, one dead. By Martín

Last Wednesday two thieves tried to rob a Peavy Burger and Mart but their attempt was foiled after the owner of the business shot and killed one of them.

The events took place at about 10pm after the Hispanic thieves entered the business on the pretext of making a purchase. The owner realized that one of the miscreants was armed so he readied the shotgun that he had under the counter in order to scare them, but when the thief aimed at him he found it necessary to shoot him.

After being shot the subject was still able to leave the business but fell in the parking lot right outside. The business is located at 1141 Peavy Road and Garland Avenue in East Dallas.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene and, finding the subject still alive, transported him to Baylor Hospital in Dallas where he later died.

The other suspect fled and at this time the police do not know his whereabouts. According to the description by the owner the robber is a male between 22 and 25 years of age.

The matter will be referred to the Dallas County prosecutor to determine if the proprietor is guilty or if he fired in self-defense.
