Charlotte, North Carolina

From the Charlotte Observer of November 4, 2005
Home invader shot in Charlotte

A man who allegedly kicked in the door of a house in western Mecklenburg County was shot and seriously injured early Friday morning by a resident inside the home.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the incident happened around 3:20 a.m. at a home in the 10800 block of Mount Holly Road, a short distance east of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.

Police say a man and woman living in the home reported that an intruder kicked in the door of the house. One of the two residents fired several shots at the intruder, who apparently fled the house.

A short time later, someone dropped off a man with gunshot wounds at the Mount Holly Police Department, nearby in eastern Gaston County. Mount Holly Police sent the victim to Gaston Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated this morning for what police describe as a “serious but non-life-threatening injury.”

Police say the wounded man taken to the police department was the suspect from the home break-in.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are questioning the residents of the home and the wounded suspect, and they are trying to find the person who transported the victim to the Mount Holly Police Department.
