From the August 1, 2005 St. Petersburg Times:
According to sheriff's investigators, Donna L. Christian, 45, knocked on the door of neighbor John F. Shockley about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Green Meadows mobile home park.
She wanted to use Shockley's phone to call a cab; she was trying to get away from her live-in boyfriend, who was drinking, said Sgt. Jim Bordner.
Then Christian's boyfriend arrived.
John Hedrick, 36, who recently pleaded no contest to a domestic battery charge and spent more than 3 months in county jail, entered Shockley's home and began arguing with him and Christian, Bordner said.
A fistfight broke out and Hedrick picked up a ceramic lamp and smashed it on Shockley's head, investigators said. Shockley grabbed a handgun and fired one shot, hitting Hedrick in the chest.
Hedrick was pronounced dead at the scene about 15 minutes later.
