3/25/22 Chicago channel 5:

A taxi driver shot a man attempting to carjack him Thursday night in Austin on the West Side.

About 6:30 p.m., a man was driving a red Mitsubishi for a taxi service when he was called to the 5400 block of West Van Buren Street, Chicago police said.

Three males entered his vehicle, and one pulled out a handgun and demanded the 30-year-old driver’s car, police said.

The driver then shot the man, 30, striking him in the forearm and hip, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.

The two other attempted carjackers fled the scene and the Mitsubishi crashed into two vehicles, police said.

The driver had a valid concealed carry license, according to police.

Then, in June, deputies concluded 18-year-old Marquavious Wright was killed out of self-defense.

"[The case of] Marquavious Wright was a situation where he was going to be involved in a robbery. The person who shot him was trying to defend themselves from being robbed," Davis said. 

Davis say Wright along with 17-year-old Travis Demontae Gilbert and 14-year-old Shamar Smith attempted to rob that person. That's why even though investigators don't believe Gilbert and Smith pulled the trigger, they still face murder charges in the case.

CHICAGO -- A 77-year-old concealed-carry license holder fatally shot a would-be robber Saturday afternoon in Burnside on the South Side.

About 12:20 p.m., the man was in an open garage in the 500 block of East 89th Street when a vehicle pulled up in the alley and an armed male exited and demanded his belongings, Chicago police said.

The man then shot at the would-be robber, fatally striking him in the head and chest, police said.

The man was not injured and did have a valid concealed-carry license, according to police.
The Chicago Fire Department confirmed to Eyewitness News that the shooter was a retired CFD captain.

A man found shot in the head inside a car at Seventh and Callowhill Streets on Monday night may have been shot while trying to rob someone a few minutes earlier with what turned out to be a BB gun, Philadelphia police said Tuesday.

The suspected robber remained hospitalized in critical condition, while a 17-year-old who may have assisted him in the robbery was taken into custody. No charges have yet been filed and police didn’t identify them. But police did say the 21-year-old man they may have targeted was legally carrying a firearm.

According to police, the events began around 5:50 p.m., when a 29-year-old man got out of his gray Chevrolet Cruze on the 300 block of South 10th Street. Police said someone put a gun to the back of his head and said: “Give me everything.” The man handed over his cellphone and wallet, while the person with the gun and another male — both described as wearing dark clothing — got into the car and drove away.

The president of a Las Vegas motorsports company was the man involved in a shootout last week that left the attacking gunman dead, according to a statement from the company.

Baldwin Motorsports said in a press release that president BJ Baldwin was eating dinner with his girlfriend in their car near Tropicana Avenue and Fort Apache Road around 2 a.m. Wednesday, April 22.

They were approached by two men, one of whom pointed a gun at Baldwin's girlfriend and began to fire, the statement reads. The girlfriend took cover and the gunman turned his attention to Baldwin....

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Ray Spencer said last week there were at least 15 rounds fired, and investigators believed the man in the car acted in self-defense.

Officials say at about 4 p.m. Friday, a robber went to a Valero gas station near the intersection of Farm-to-Market 1960 and Cypresswood Drive, near the northeastern edge of George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The suspect tried to rob a customer at the gas station who was armed, deputies say.
“I had two males exchange gunfire. I have one male that is deceased on scene and then I have another male that has been transported to the hospital," Harris County Sheriff’s Office Lt. David Klozik said.
The customer and the suspect exchanged gunfire which resulted in the robber being shot and killed, officials say.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A 60-Year-old Miami man said he was forced to shoot and kill a gunman who had broken in to his van early Monday morning in an attempt to rob him of his jewelry.“The guy I killed last night, he put an AK-47 to my damn face,” said Donovan Stewart.Stewart told CBS4’S Peter D’Oench that he had to act quickly because he was worried about the safety of his 11-year-old son and girlfriend who were in the van with him.
The reporter also wrote:
he was approached by Delilah Gaitor and her boyfriend, Evans Chery. Gaitor said the dead gunman was the same man who terrorized her around 6 a.m. on Saturday and robbed her at gunpoint of $600 in cash, her iPhone and her 2018 Volkswagen.“He had a gun and forced me to open my door,” she said. “He told me to open, so I gave him my cash right away. I feel very relieved now. This was a terrible thing to do to me. I was devastated and I was emotional. This is crazy to rob this man. He has a family and to do something like that while he was living in a van is not right.”

The U.S. Marshals Service have arrested one of the named in a robbery attempt in Yeadon last month in which the suspect fought back, fatally shooting another of his assailants. 
Tyrone "Chub" Madison, 26, of Philadelphia, was arrested about 6:30 a.m. Friday morning by the U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force and Yeadon Police Department in the 1200 block of West Venango Street in North Philadelphia.
Madison had been wanted by Yeadon police for a slew of robbery and assault charges after Omar Thompson, Madison’s alleged partner in crime, was killed trying to rob a man behind the Parkview Court Apartments in the 2500 block of Alfred Drive on Sept. 18. The fatal shooting was ruled a justifiable homicide and no charges were filed against the intended target.

The masked teens -- a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds -- approached three residents around 4 a.m. Monday at the front yard of a home just outside Conyers and tried to rob them, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said.
One of the would-be robbers took out a gun and fired shots at them before one of the residents returned fire, authorities said.
"The victims of the attempted robbery were all uninjured, but the three attempted robbery suspects were all shot during the exchange of gunfire and succumbed to their injuries, one on scene and two at a local hospital after being transported," the sheriff's department said in a news release....
Another neighbor ran out to help after he heard what sounded like five shots from a handgun, he said.
"Then I heard somebody have an assault rifle," Carlos Watson told WSB. "And it was a slew of shots that came out."

The homeowner who shot the masked intruder is a man. Neighbors say he's a truck driver who owns a semi-automatic rifle and is highly protective of his mother.

A would-be thief was shot Monday night after the victim’s husband stopped the crime in progress, chased the man down and opened fire, police said.
The suspect, Jordan Ponce, 19, approached a 25-year-old woman walking home Monday night in Antioch about 9:30 p.m., Metro Nashville Police said in a press release. He allegedly ran up behind her and grabbed at her purse.
But when she wouldn’t let go, the woman told police, he bashed her head against the building wall.
That’s when her 29-year-old husband reportedly heard her screams and raced to help.Authorities said Ponce fled the scene but was chased by the husband, who jumped over a fence and landed on top of the suspect. The pair struggled. Still, the relentless husband remained on his trail and a second fight ensued.
The suspect hit the husband in the head, prompting him to take out his gun and fire.

A group of armed would-be robbers tried to take advantage of a couple Friday night in DeKalb County, Ga, police say - but it didn't go as planned.
Police say a group of individuals began following a couple through a Kroger grocery store in metro Atlanta Friday afternoon, according to Fox 5. Police say when the group followed the couple outside hoping to either rob or carjack them, the parking lot turned into a battlefield.
"It was chaos," one witness told WSB. "I saw the guy was shot. I saw him on the floor, shot."
Police say three armed individuals approached the couple outside, but realized one of the members of the couple was armed as well, and a shootout began, according to WXIA.
"It was like the Wild Wild West. I was terrified," a witness, who was sitting in her car during the fight, told Fox 5. "I'm just glad I'm safe."
Police say four different people were all firing at some point, but the only people who were hit were the alleged attackers, according to CBS 46. Three of those alleged attackers were shot, with one bloodied man entering the Kroger store.

A man was jogging to his gym in the 6000 block of West Poly Webb Road, near Little Road and Interstate 20, at about 6 a.m. when he noticed a truck following him, police say. The truck eventually pulled in front of the jogger, and the teen got out of the passenger door with a gun and demanded property.
The jogger pulled out his own concealed weapon and shot the suspect at least one time in the leg. Police found 10 to 12 shell casings in the parking lot where the shooting occurred. One business had a bullet hole in its door. 
People who live and work in the area, which is filled with businesses and on the edge of a residential neighborhood, said the area is normally quiet and doesn't see much crime.After the teenager was shot, police say he got back into the truck and the driver took off. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen on Feb. 16, was found abandoned a short time later.

ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) – An early morning robbery attempt has landed one would-be criminal in the hospital with a gunshot wound.
According to Arlington police, an unidentified man was jogging to the gym Wednesday when he noticed a truck following him in the 6000 block of Poly Webb Road, near Interstate-20.
Reports say a juvenile passenger got out of the truck brandished a gun and demanded money from the jogger. The jogger, who was also armed, resisted, pulled his weapon and fired several times. Bullets hit the suspect in the groin area. The injured suspect ran back to the truck and quickly left the scene.

Bevo, MO: Someone Didn't See Gran Torino

ST. LOUIS - Two men were killed in a double shooting in the Bevo neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, and police said the shooter was the homeowner.
St. Louis Metropolitan Police said the shooting happened on the 4100 block of Taft Avenue at around 4 p.m.
Police said the 73-year-old homeowner was in his garage when he was approached by two armed men. One of the men put his gun to the head of the homeowner and told the homeowner to back up. The homeowner then pulled out his gun taht he had in his pocket and shot the men. 
Police said the men wanted the homeowner's car, and one of the men had a stolen gun.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. On Wednesday they were identified as 18-year-old Jonathan Warren of Florissant and 20-year-old Lonnie Middlebrook of Ferguson.

CHICAGO — A man with a concealed-carry license shot and killed an armed robber Wednesday night in Grand Boulevard, police said.
At 8:20 p.m., the man was sitting in a car with another man in the 4300 block of South State Street when two men with guns walked up and tried to rob them, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
One of the men in the car, 32, fired his gun, hitting one of the robbers, Pacheco said.
Treamel Gray, 23, one of the alleged robbers, was shot in his head. Gray, of south suburban Flossmoor, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified Friday by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A 91-year-old concealed pistol license holder shot a man who was attempting to rob him Monday in Eastpointe, according to police.
The victim was exiting his car around 10:15 a.m. and heading into the Rite Aid on Gratiot near Nine Mile when an unknown suspect in his late 20s approached, Sgt. Martin Campbell said.
“He attempted to rob (the victim) and (the victim) had a CPL and ended up shooting the suspect,” Campbell said. “It’s as simple as that.”
The would-be robber was struck in the neck and fled across Gratiot, where he was arrested by responding officers.
“Two detectives found him walking over there,” Campbell said. “He had a gunshot wound to the neck but he was talking and acting erratic.”
The erratic behavior initially prompted alarm bells for his intended target, Campbell said.
“The suspect approached and began to act erratic. (The victim) told him he had a gun, he warned him three or four times and even had the gun pointed at him,” Campbell said. “But the suspect kept coming and pointed an unknown object at the victim.”

GLENDALE, AZ. - Carolann Miracle is 4 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 85 pounds. She’s a petite woman who seems like an easy target, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. 
“I was scared, at first. I thought, ‘Am I really getting robbed?’” Miracle told ABC15.
Miracle said she was leaving the Circle K near 59th Avenue and Camelback Road with her family early Monday morning when the suspect, Frank Taylor , tried to bum a cigarette. She told him that she didn’t have one, and then seconds later, Miracle said, she could feel the barrel of the gun against her skin.
“He put the gun up to my neck and said, ‘It’s loaded, don’t move,’” Miracle said. ”I think he thought, ‘She’s a little girl. Maybe she doesn’t know how to use her weapon.’”
Miracle said, “I dropped my soda, released my gun from my holster and cocked it. I shot him and ran in the opposite direction."

According to police, a 28-year-old man who was robbed at gunpoint as he unloaded groceries from his car was able to shoot the robber with a handgun he had concealed in his jacket pocket.

"Everyone has a fundamental right to protect themselves from serious injury or death," Barber said. "When threatened, you can protect yourself."

Barber said police are continuing to investigate the shooting and will likely release more information later in the afternoon.

Police identified the robber as 18-year-old Michael L. Clark, who was found dead in the breezeway of one of the apartment buildings.

Clark was struck once in the center of the chest and once to the right side of his chest. He was not carrying identification at the time.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A 16-year-old suspect in an attempted robbery and shooting is dead after being shot by one of his alleged victims.

Police say two people were sitting in a car outside a house in the 1700 block of Denison St. around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, when three men came up and tried to rob them.

The suspects fired shots into the car hitting the male victim in the side.

Police say he was able to return fire hitting the 16-year-old suspect in the chest.

The suspect was taken to his mother's house by the two other suspects.
How long before Everytown for Gun Safety features the robber's mother in its calls for fewer guns?

MANCHESTER, N.H. —A 65-year-old Manchester woman shot and injured a man Monday night when he tried to rob her, police said.

Manchester police said the woman, who did not want to be identified, told them that she shot the man when he tried to grab her while she was trying to get into her apartment building. She said the man had been in a car that followed her into the parking lot of her apartment complex, police said.
Police identified the man as Michael Bontaites, 23, of Manchester. He was treated for a serious but not life-threatening chest wound at Elliot Hospital....

After she left her car, she heard another vehicle door close and heard someone approaching her quickly from behind, police said.

"Something in my head said to take the gun out of my purse," the woman told News 9.

With her hand on the gun now in her coat pocket, she told News 9 that she headed toward her apartment. She said she looked behind and saw a man following her.

The woman told police that a white man wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt ran past her and blocked her path.

"Ten feet from the front stairs. That's when he caught up to me, and he came around me and stood right in front of me. Right in my face," she said.

The woman told News 9 that the man yelled at her.

She said he reached out and tried to grab her, but she pulled her handgun from her pocket and shot him once in the chest at close range....

Investigators said the woman, described as 4 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing 105 pounds, feared for her safety and has a valid concealed carry permit. Bontaites is described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds.

Police said the man fell to the ground while the woman ran inside the building. The man called 911 while he was on the ground....

The woman told News 9 that she had a valid concealed permit through the Manchester Police Department for more than 10 years.

"Last night was the first time I ever shot that gun in all the time I've owned it," she said.
