Nampa, ID

 3/31/25 CBS channel 2:

A Nampa man has been cleared of any charges as the prosecutors determine he acted in self-defense.

Ryan Fleming shot and killed Kevin Villalobos on September 29, 2024, after Villalobos showed up at his home intoxicated and uninvited and began attacking Fleming. The Canyon County Prosecutor's Office reports that the evidence in this case shows that Mr. Villalobos aggressively approached the entrance of Mr. Fleming's home and began physically attacking him. Mr. Fleming "exercised his legal right to self-defense and used necessary force to protect himself and his home."

Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Boyd issued the following statement: "This was an unfortunate and tragic event that resulted in the loss of a life, and I extend my sympathies to the family of Mr. Villalobos as they grieve. However, under Idaho law, individuals have an unequivocal right to defend themselves, their families, and their homes from violent attacks. Idaho’s self-defense and ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws are clear: when an individual is faced with an immediate and unlawful threat of serious bodily harm, they are legally justified in using force to protect themselves."

Comments attempt to blame Fleming with assertion that Fleming attacked Villalobos wife and child the previous day.  Even if true, the correct response to a crime not involving imminent harm is to call police.

Ada, Oklahoma

6/3/17 News 9 Oklahoma:
Ada Police say a man shot and killed his neighbor, claiming the neighbor was trying to drown two infants Friday morning.
Police officer Lisa Bratcher says the man was attempting to drown a boy and a girl, both three-months-old in the bathtub when a 12-year-old ran out of the home and told his neighbor.
According to KXII, the CBS affiliate in Sherman, Texas, police said that neighbor went inside the home, confronted the man holding the two infants in the tub and shot him twice.
Police say the two infants were stable when they were taken to an Oklahoma City hospital.
Sorry, sir, they are 3 months and one day too old for that to be legal.
