A suspected burglar is in jail after being shot by a frightened homeowner. Also, from the August 1, 2005 Fort Bend, Texas Herald-Coaster:
Investigators say 19-year-old William Hansen Ebarb forced his way into a screened-off porch area at a home in the 4300 block of Colony West near Richmond early Monday morning.
The homeowner heard the commotion, grabbed his gun and went to investigate.
Police say Ebarb wouldn't leave and the homeowner shot him in the waist area.
Carlson said the report indicated Ebarb allegedly drove his vehicle into a yard and then walked three houses down to the residence and forcibly tried to enter a screen in the rear of the residence. He was shot when the armed 73-year-old resident confronted him at the back door and asked him to leave.
"Ebarb refused to leave and continued to force open the back door," said Carlson. "The victim repeatedly requested (Ebarb) to leave. In fear of his life and property, the victim fired two rounds, hitting (Ebarb) once in the waist area."
Carlson said the homeowner detained Ebarb until deputies and paramedics arrived.
About the same time, Carlson said, the homeowner's wife was transported to the Richmond hospital in critical condition after suffering some type of medical trauma related to incident.
Carlson said Ebarb, who was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail, faces charges of burglary of a habitation and injury to the elderly.
