Lubbock, TX

 11/25/21 New Zealand Herald:

Lawyers for a Texas man who shot and killed a woman's ex-husband after a heated confrontation outside their home say the killing was a "justifiable homicide" under the state's self-defence laws.

Police have not laid any charges against William "Kyle" Carruth, who shot and killed Chad Read, 54, in the north-western city of Lubbock on November 5, local media reported.

Two videos of the deadly incident, one released by Read's widow and one by Carruth's lawyers, depict the confrontation between the two men moments before the shooting.

In the videos, Read is seen arguing with a woman, identified as his ex-wife, over a child custody issue.

Carruth tells Read to leave, before stepping back inside the house and returning with a gun.

The men go head-to-head as Read yells at Carruth to "use it, motherf***er because God damn it I'll take it from you and f***ing use it on you".

Carruth steps back and fires a shot into the ground.

Read then grabs the gun and swings Carruth, who steps back off the porch and fires two shots, killing the other man.

Anderson, IN

 9/29/21 Fox channel 59:

ANDERSON, Ind. — An Anderson woman shot and killed a man suspected of breaking into her home overnight.

911 dispatchers received a call from a female homeowner in the 1300 block of E. 8th Street around 12:47 a.m. The woman told police there was a break-in at the home, and she shot the suspected burglar.

By the time police arrived, they found the alleged suspect dead in an upstairs bedroom.

With home surveillance cameras rolling, prosecutors insist a man forced his way into the woman’s home.

“Neighbors had videos of him parking in front of the residence and looking through windows, ultimately breaking through the door and pulling a weapon out,” said Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings.

Prosecutor Cummings says the suspect could also be heard on video asking for money and pretending to be law enforcement.

“There was audio, and you could hear what he was saying inside. He said, ‘It’s the police.’ He was claiming to be police officer, but he had a mask on,” said Cummings.

Sandpoint, ID

 6/26/21 Spokesman-Review:

Idaho Department of Fish and Game received a report Tuesday of an aggressive bull moose that charged a camper at a Harrison Lake backcountry campsite north of Sandpoint, according to an agency news release.

The moose tore apart the campsite and charged at the camper and his dog. The camper hid behind a tree, but the moose did not stop charging. The camper discharged a firearm at the moose in self-defense from close range, according to the release. Fish and Game responded to the incident and located the deceased moose.

The Forest Service has closed the Harrison Lake trailhead to hikers to prevent possible conflicts between hikers and any bears that may feed on the carcass. The trailhead will be closed for a week.

It’s unclear whether the dog was leashed or not but it was in the man’s camp, IDFG spokeswoman Kara Campbell said. A .45 caliber handgun was used, Campbell said.

A woman shot and fatally wounded an armed attacker outside her home in Dale City early Thursday, police say.

Prince William County prosecutors have ruled the incident a justified homicide and say the victim acted in self defense.

Officers were called to the 4100 block of Hoffman Drive at 12:25 a.m., where a 44-year-old woman reported she was leaving her house when she saw an unknown, masked man approaching her from the side of the home.

The victim, who was also armed at the time, shot the individual as he approached the front door of her home, Prince William County police 1st Sgt. Jonathan Perok said.

Officers arrived and found a man near the doorway suffering from gunshot wounds. They also located a loaded handgun in the man’s possession, Perok said.
