A teen robbery suspect was shot to death Saturday afternoon by a parking lot attendant near the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex.
Police identified the slain teen as Chico Guest. He was 17 and lived in Center Point.
The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. at 10th Avenue and 18th Street North. That is near the DEA and FBI headquarters.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin said officers responded to a report of a person shot. They arrived on the scene to find Guest unresponsive on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service....
Mauldin said the preliminary investigation suggests Guest and the other wounded person were involved in a robbery when they were shot. The victim of the robbery – the shooter - was working as a parking lot attendant when the robbery occurred, and he shot the suspects.Mauldin said the attendant has been cooperative in the investigation.
Documenting civilians using guns in self-defense. Largely because a well-known gun control activist insisted to me that defensive use of guns by civilians was very rare: "maybe once in ten years."
